The course will also cover the management of withdrawal from opioids, alcohol and benzodiazepines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Give an overview of the neurobiology of addiction and how it affects the neuroplastic changes in the brain<\/li>\n<li>Screen patients with substance use disorders and provide appropriate treatment<\/li>\n<li>Recognize the prevalence and consequences of cannabis use disorder and its impact on patients\u2019 medical and social well-being<\/li>\n<li>Identify and manage patients with stimulant use disorder and discuss DSM-5 criteria diagnosis<\/li>\n<li>Describe the value of using medication-assisted treatment to help patients with opioid use problems<\/li>\n<li>Identify high-risk factors of patients who are candidates for naloxone<\/li>\n<li>Discuss developmental components of managing patients with alcohol use disorder and commonly used medication-assisted withdrawal techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview This course provides an in-depth understanding of the neurobiology of addictions and the assessment, diagnosis and medical management of substance use disorders.
