{"id":7947,"date":"2018-05-24T11:13:52","date_gmt":"2018-05-24T17:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/?page_id=7947"},"modified":"2025-04-29T12:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T17:22:08","slug":"tips-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/residents\/tips-program\/","title":{"rendered":"TIPS Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) program is a policy-based program<strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>generously funded by the American Osteopathic Foundation, that provides an understanding of current health care policy issues while also facilitating leadership opportunities. <strong>Applications for the TIPS program are now being accepted through June 15, 2025!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"buttons\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"btn btn--primary\" href=\"https:\/\/aof.smapply.org\/prog\/TIPS\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply now<\/a><\/div>\n<p>Sessions will focus on physician payment models, health care reform, social determinants of health, the opioid epidemic and current public health issues. Participants will gain experience in writing policy briefs and white papers, oral testimony, media training and more.<\/p>\n<p>This program serves as an initial leadership and policy program for residents wishing to become more active within the osteopathic profession. TIPS fellows have gone on to serve in leadership and policy development roles both within and outside of the osteopathic community. Some have also continued their policy training by participating in the Health Policy Fellowship program, which has produced over 20 deans and college of osteopathic medicine presidents.<\/p>\n<h3>Program structure<\/h3>\n<p>Fellows will gain hands-on experience in policy by attending meetings led by experts, drafting policy briefs and papers, engaging in interactive training and attending events that provide leadership and networking opportunities. Please review the <a href=\"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/TIPS-Agenda-2024-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">program agenda<\/a> for an overview of the topics and activities covered by the program. The program is comprised of eight meetings, with the first meeting taking place on Sept. 25-28, 2025, at <a href=\"https:\/\/omed.osteopathic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OMED<\/a> in Nashville, Tennessee.<\/p>\n<h3>How to apply<\/h3>\n<p>View <a href=\"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/TIPS-Application-User-Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">instructions<\/a> on how to create an account in our portal.<\/p>\n<p>A complete application will include the following items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An updated resume or CV uploaded to the application page<\/li>\n<li>A 250-500 word statement of purpose explaining why you hope to join the program<\/li>\n<li>A writing sample<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Training-in-Policy-Studies-Recommendation-Form.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommendation form<\/a> completed by a reference who is familiar with your interest and\/or involvement in policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We encourage you to make sure these items are ready before beginning the application. You will be able to add recommenders in the online portal. Decisions are typically issued by late June, and the first meeting will take place at OMED in September.
