Each state requires DOs to obtain a license to practice medicine after completing their first year of residency and passing COMLEX-USA Level 3. You’ll be able to take COMLEX-USA Level 3 after you pass both COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE and Level 2-PE<\/a> and graduate from an accredited college of osteopathic medicine. Most DOs take Level 3 during their first year of residency, so it is important to start preparing for that licensure exam.<\/p>\n

After you obtain licensure and complete residency training, you will be eligible to earn specialty board certification. Several AOA specialty boards provide opportunities for eligible resident physicians in the third or fourth year of an AOA-approved or ACGME-accredited residency program to sit for initial board certification exams.
