Read further for information on our latest efforts and advocacy wins.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82034\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82034\" style=\"width: 232px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82034 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025-232x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025-232x300.png 232w, https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025-791x1024.png 791w, https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025-768x994.png 768w, https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025-1187x1536.png 1187w, https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025-1583x2048.png 1583w, https:\/\/osteopathic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/State-Priorities-2025.png 1700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82034\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View the 2025 State Priorities<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>State priority areas<\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Scope of practice &amp; new licensure types<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the physician-led, team-based model of care and uniform, evidence-based licensure pathways for all clinicians based upon scope of practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Osteopathic equivalency &amp; recognition<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure that the osteopathic profession and credentials are recognized as equivalent to their allopathic counterparts.<\/li>\n<li>Educate legislators about current osteopathic terminology, and the distinctive philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine.<\/li>\n<li>Support DO licensure and regulation by osteopathic medical boards in dual board states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Truth in advertising<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Support legislation that requires all health care providers to affirmatively communicate their degrees and licensure types to patients, restricts \u201c-ologist\u201d titles to physicians and requires entities offering physician board certification to possess legitimate training and testing requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Public health<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Work to increase public awareness and implement evidence-based recommendations and best practices related to public health issues.<\/li>\n<li>Support funding to strengthen our public health care infrastructure and workforce; address health care disparities and social determinants of health; and establish a robust national strategy to combat future public health emergencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Physician workforce<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Support legislation that expands the physician workforce by increasing funding for graduate medical education, especially in high-need specialties and locations, and expanding financial incentives to facilitate care for the underserved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Telemedicine<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the delivery of appropriate health care services, including the prescription of controlled substances, through telemedicine and other communications-based technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Advocate for coverage and payment parity between these services and similar services delivered in-person.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Artificial intelligence (AI)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Support awareness and appropriate use of AI, with the physician retaining ultimate responsibility for clinical decision-making and patient care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Connect &amp; get involved<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Advocate on behalf of your profession and patients by staying up to date on policy developments and getting involved in your community.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Osteopathic Advocacy Network (OAN)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The AOA is working on your behalf every day, but you are the best advocate for the osteopathic profession and your elected officials must hear from you.
