The ACGME, AOA, and AACOM recognize there will be unique circumstances whereby some programs, despite their good faith effort, may not successfully transition to ACGME accreditation by June 30, 2020. The three organizations agreed in March 2017 to provide the AOA restricted authority to extend the AOA accreditation date in order to allow any remaining residents in such programs to complete training in an accredited program and advance to board eligibility.<\/p>\n

A small number of programs were not ACGME accredited by July 1, 2020. The AOA, through the Program and Trainee Review Council, will continue to monitor and accredit those programs. Find all standards for programs accredited by AOA after July 1, 2020 at:<\/p>\n

Education Councils<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0Bureau of Osteopathic Education<\/a>\u00a0(BOE) studies the full continuum of osteopathic medical education and makes recommendations to the AOA Board as to how to improve osteopathic medical education and the policies that support educational accreditation and certification programs.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Program and Trainee Review Council<\/a> (PTRC) is the final authority for the accreditation of AOA training programs, based upon recommendations from the educational evaluating committees of osteopathic specialty colleges. PTRC also recommends policies of OGME to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education.<\/p>\n
